One of the most common problems with any computer is failure of the hard disk. Modern disks are very reliable but they are still mechanical devices, subject to wear & tear like anything with moving parts - eventually they can and do wear out.

Replacing a failed hard disk is a reasonably inexpensive process, however it can be a jarring experience for many. A failed disk can mean the loss of all your precious files, photographs and information - some of it irreplaceable. Often but not always a hard disk will give some warning before it fails, so if you see any of the warning signs below it's best not to wait - call us and we'll test your disk & if necessary arrange a replacement for you.

We offer two options for disk replacement, depending on your circumstances. If your disk has completely failed, our 'Disk replacement - no data transfer' is the option for you. We'll replace the disk and reload your operating system from your original CD (where possible - we cannot install operating systems when the license sticker is missing or obviously fraudulant).

For those who's disk is still working we offer 'Disk replacement - with data transfer'. We'll replace the disk at our workshop and copy the contents of your existing disk onto the new one, preserving your files & operating system. Please note it's not always possible to copy all files (or indeed any files!) from a faulty disk, we'll do our best but if it proves impossible you will only be charged for a standard disk replacement.

Symptoms of a failing hard disk

  • System will not boot, often showing an error claiming system files are damaged or missing
  • Unexplained system crashes, hangs or blue screens (can also indicate other problems)
  • Your PC reporting a SMART error when starting up (indicates imminent disk failure!)
  • Windows frequently running it's disk repair process when you switch on your PC
  • Files becomming unreadable for no obvious reason
